Diet is one of those four letter words you will want to avoid using too
much, especially if you are a growing teenage girl. Despite the images
you may see in the media, it is important that you maintain a healthy
perspective of your own body image. As a young woman experiencing
pubescence, your body has specific needs in order to develop, and it's
important that you eat the right foods and get the appropriate amount of
exercise. Always remember that you are beautiful no matter how much you
weigh and that an easy diet is the diet that doesn't have to feel like
one.
One healthy way to approach your eating habits is to fully
understand that you can eat anything, so long as it is in moderation,
and still live a healthy lifestyle. No matter what food you love to eat,
even those high in calories, carbohydrates, fat, salt and cholesterol,
it doesn't necessarily mean it is bad for you. It's when you begin to
eat more of those foods than you should that it has a negative effect on
your physical well-being. So don't feel as though you have to stick to
foods with lesser flavor because they are lower in calories, fat and
carbohydrates. Maintain a moderate diet that allows for a little bit of
everything, especially those foods rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and
protein. When you are eating in moderation you can eat anything and
never feel as though you are being deprived.
A great way to maintain a healthy weight, as well as
maintain a higher energy level, is to avoid empty calories. Empty
calories usually come disguised in sugary drinks and snacks such as
soda, juice, dessert and candy. Oftentimes when you are eating on the
go, it is just as easy to grab a sugary drink or snack to temporarily
boost your energy level. However, these particular boosts of energy will
leave you feeling more tired down the road because they provide nothing
more than empty calories. Plan ahead and pack healthy snacks for when
you are out and about. You'll experience a difference when you take
along some apples, nuts, oranges, bananas, a turkey sandwich or a
peanut-butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat bread. And be sure to
drink plenty of milk and water.
There is an old dieting myth lingering out there that's been
around for generations that leads young girls to believe they have to
stop eating in order to lose weight. This particular method of dieting can be quite dangerous, even deadly. The truth is that eating more of
the healthier foods throughout the day can, in fact, boost your
metabolism. Therefore, you are more likely to burn more calories in your
everyday activities than if you were to skip meals entirely. If you eat
three healthy meals a day along with some healthy snacks in between,
your metabolism will benefit greatly. Throw in a healthy exercise
regime, and you will be on your way to a much leaner, healthier you.
It's a lifestyle more than it is a diet.
